Grants in action: Improving health access in rural communities with Amman Valley League of Friends
One of our first ACT Community Grants, in November 2017, was awarded to the Amman Valley Hospital League of Friends after receiving a nomination from Towergate colleague, Margaret Thomas.
The Amman Valley Hospital is a small surgery located near one of the Group’s offices in Ammanford,, in the heart of Wales and one which has been fundraising continuously for more than five years to offer new facilities and services to their local community.
CT awarded a £2,500 grant towards the X-ray machine in the hope this would reduce NHS waiting times at nearby practices and mean no longer having to travel hours for a diagnosis.
Colleague, Margaret, has been a long-term supporter of the League of Friends, and a strong advocate of improving access to healthcare for residents in the surrounding Carmarthenshire region.
